TV Wall Mount Installation Checklist: 12 Things to Do Before the Install
Whether you're hiring QuickMountTV™ or doing it yourself, run this checklist 24 hours before the install. It eliminates 90% of mid-install delays and the awkward 'oh wait, can you also...' upcharges.
Before you book
- Measure your TV. Diagonal screen size, height, width, and weight (without stand). All on the spec sheet.
- Find your TV's VESA pattern. The four-hole spacing on the back, in mm.
- Decide on the wall. Drywall, brick, plaster, or other? Above a fireplace? Indoors or out?
- Decide on cable concealment. Want cables hidden in the wall, in a paintable channel, or just routed neatly?
Before the technician arrives
- Clear the area. Move furniture at least 6 feet away from the wall.
- Have the TV unboxed and sitting near the install location.
- Have the bracket ready if you bought your own. Unboxed, with all included hardware on hand.
- Decide the height in advance. Tape a paper rectangle the TV's size to the wall and live with it for an hour. Indecision during the install is the #1 cause of overruns.
- Verify outlet location. Note where the nearest outlet is and whether you want power relocated up behind the TV.
- Locate your stud finder pre-readings. Optional, but if you've already mapped the studs, share that with the tech.
- Know your HOA / building rules. Some condo buildings restrict drilling on shared walls.
- Have payment method ready. Most pros (including QuickMountTV™) take card on-site or pre-charge during booking.
After the install — the 5-minute check
Before the tech leaves: power-cycle the TV, switch every input source, gently push the TV to verify it doesn't shift in the bracket, take photos of the cable routing, and confirm the warranty paperwork. A 3-year workmanship warranty (what QuickMountTV™ provides) means anything related to the install is on us — keep the booking confirmation in case you ever need to reference it.
Frequently asked
- Do I need to provide my own TV bracket?
- Up to you. QuickMountTV™ can supply a bracket matched to your TV (priced separately) or you can bring your own. If you bring your own, have it unboxed and ready before the tech arrives.
- What if I don't know my TV's VESA pattern?
- Search '[your TV model] VESA pattern' or look on the back of the TV for the four threaded mounting holes. Measure the spacing in mm. The QuickMountTV™ booking form helps you figure it out.
- Should I be present during the install?
- Yes. The tech needs to confirm height, placement, and test with you on-site. Plan for 30–90 minutes depending on the job complexity.
