How Long Does Professional TV Mounting Take?
One of the most common questions before booking: how long is the technician going to be in my house? Honest answer: less than you think for the install itself, but expect prep and cleanup time too.
Real install times by job type
- Standard 32"–55" TV on drywall, basic mount: 30–45 minutes door-to-door.
- 65"–75" TV on drywall: 45–60 minutes.
- 85"+ TV (two-tech install): 60–90 minutes.
- Add in-wall cable concealment: +30–45 minutes.
- Above-fireplace with heat-rated bracket: +20–30 minutes vs equivalent flat-wall install.
- Brick, stone, or tile walls: +30–45 minutes (drilling, dust control).
- Outdoor TV install: 90–120 minutes.
What slows the install down
- Furniture in the way — moving a sectional out of the room is a 15-minute project.
- Couldn't find the bracket — if you bought your own, have it on-site and unboxed before the tech arrives.
- Studs not where they should be — older homes have non-standard 24" stud spacing.
- Lath-and-plaster walls (pre-1950 homes) — drilling is much slower and dustier than drywall.
- HVAC or plumbing in the wall cavity — discovered with a stud finder, but rerouting the install adds 15–30 minutes.
What you can do to speed it up
Have the TV unboxed and on the floor near the install location. Have the bracket and any cables you want hidden ready to go. Clear a 6-foot perimeter in front of the wall. Decide on TV height before the tech arrives — flip-flopping during the install is the single biggest delay.
Frequently asked
- Can a pro install a TV in 30 minutes?
- Yes — for a textbook standard install on drywall with no cable concealment, 30 minutes is realistic. Anything more complex (fireplace, brick, hidden cables) will run longer.
- Do I need to be home for the install?
- Yes — TV placement and height decisions need to be approved by you on-site, and the tech needs to test the install with you present.
- What happens if the install runs over the estimated time?
- With flat-rate pricing (what QuickMountTV™ uses), you don't pay more — the price is locked when you book. With hourly pros, the meter keeps running.
